OR Scrub Tech
Job Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all of the equipment needed for the procedure is properly disinfected and assembled.
• Verify that equipment is in working order.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Cleans and disinfects endoscopes. Sterilizes supplies.
• May assist with preparing patients for surgery by cleaning, shaving and disinfecting areas of the body that will be operated on.
• Move patients to the OR and position them on the operating table, using sterile drapes to cover them.
• Ensures the preparation and maintenance of sterile field in OR. Understands and demonstrates sterile technique.
• Gowns and gloves surgeons. Drapes sterile field. Performs instrument, needle and sponge count. Passes instruments. Prepares sterile dressings.
• Assist with preparation and disposal of lab specimens.
• Clean and prep OR for next surgical case.
• Orders supplies for OR, SPD & OPS.
• Checks expiration dates on sterile supplies on all nursing units.
• Assists in ambulatory surgery and other departments as needed.
• Attends in-service monthly.
• Interacts efficiently and pleasantly with other departments, physicians, patients, peers and vendors to assure continuity of quality patient care and to promote an environment conducive to team work.
• Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches
• Follows all Federal, State and Departmental procedures. Performs other job duties as assigned as duties listed are not all inclusive.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

1. EDUCATION High school graduate
Certificate or associate’s degree in surgical technology preferred, but not required

2. LICENSURE Valid driver's license

3. EXPERIENCE Certification (if CST)
1 year preferred but not required

4. SKILLS Understands and demonstrates sterile technique
Demonstrates proper function and maintenance of equipment
Anticipates surgeons' needs
Demonstrates competence in HIPPA, Infection Control, Safety, Risk Management and security measures

5. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Maintains good rapport with physicians and employees
Works well in a team

6. PHYSICAL EFFORT Regularly required to stand for long periods of time, reach, walk, stoop, bend and must lift or move patients. Must transport patients in a wheelchair or stretcher.

7. HOURS OF WORK Monday-Friday 0700-1500 and assist with call coverage 24/7

8. HAZARDS Biological, chemical and mechanical hazards

Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. Cognizant of ethical and legal issues inherent in providing care for patients of all ages.

The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Employees who have legally obtained a prescription for medical marijuana, cannot use marijuana at work or come to work “under the influence” & must not be in possession of marijuana while on hospital property.

Knowledgeable in infection prevention and control measures.
