Circulating Nurse RN
• Completes pre-operative assessments and interprets data to formalize an individual plan of care for surgical patients in collaboration with surgeon
• Evaluates the patient’s plan of care to ensure positive patient outcomes
• Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room while circulating
• Maintains accurate documentation to ensure accountability and accurate precise records
• Demonstrates competency in circulating cases as it relates to unit scope of care including planning and efficiently providing equipment and supplies based upon physician/patient needs
• Demonstrates competency in utilizing principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining sterile field
• Administers medications and solutions in the OR including monitoring the physiological status of patients
• Provides safe environment for the patient during their experience
• Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events
• Acts as an advocate for the patient who is unable to act on their own behalf while under anesthesia
• Identifies and resolves conflict constructively
• Provides nursing care for the patient post-operatively
• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the OR
• Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches
• Participates in performance improvement
• Maintains good rapport with physicians and employees
• Performs duties in a professional and pleasant manner
• Knowledgeable regarding Patient's Rights, OR, hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
• Performs other job duties as assigned
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: DESCRIPTION


1. EDUCATION Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, RN program; BSN preferred

2. LICENSURE Current RN licensure with ASBN
Certified in CPR, ACLS, PALS & NRP
Must have a valid driver's license

3. EXPERIENCE Minimum 1 year experience as staff nurse

4. SKILLS Must be capable of communicating clearly
Maintains good rapport with physicians and employees
Performs duties in professional and pleasant manner
Can act as a scrub nurse as needed
Knowledgeable in proper function and maintenance of equipment
Can function in other nursing areas if needed
Demonstrates competence in HIPPA, Infection Control, Safety, Risk Management and security measures
The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner

5. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Works well in a team setting
Communicates effectively

6. PHYSICAL EFFORT Regularly required to stand for long periods of time, reach, walk, stoop and bend; ability to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis. Must transport patients in a wheelchair or stretch.

7. HOURS OF WORK 0700-1500 Monday-Friday and assist with call 24/7

9. COMPETENCE FOR SPECIFIC PATIENT POPULATION:
Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. Cognizant of ethical and legal issues inherent in providing care for patients of all ages.

10. INFECTION CONTROL:
Knowledgeable in infection prevention and control measures.
