Phlebotomist
I. Clinical Lab Assistant

1. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Keep all patient information confidential in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
3. Answer and transfer telephone calls in a professional manner.
4. Process and file lab requests and physician orders, as well as, future orders.
5. Enhance professional growth through education, current literature and in-services.
6. Scan patient orders, results and other documents pertaining to patient testing and information.
7. Fax results to ordering physician offices and clinics as needed.
8. Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of all specimens.
9. Draw and transport blood from patients using venipuncture or capillary by safe collection methods.
10. Follow all protocols to maintain sample integrity and avoid contamination.
11. Maintain accurate patient records and document procedures performed.
12. Transport or send specimens to laboratories for analysis.
13. Assist in patient care during adverse reactions or complications.
14. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, daily stock phlebotomy drawing room and trays.
15. All other duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: DESCRIPTION
• EDUCATION
• High School Diplomaor GED required
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
• Certification preferred but not required

• EXPERIENCE
• Preferred one year


• PHYSICAL EFFORT
• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole Hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Ability to move about.
