Ultrasound Technologist Job Description
Position Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations using specialized imaging equipment to produce high-quality images for interpretation by board certified Radiologist. This position prepares patients, explains procedures, ensures patient safety and comfort, documents findings and maintains compliance with clinical, regulatory, and departmental standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders and established protocols.
Obtain high-quality images.
Review patient histories and assess relevant clinical information before examinations.
Explain procedures to patients and answer questions regarding the examination process.
Position and prepare patients while maintaining privacy, dignity, and comfort.
Operate, Adjust, and maintain ultrasound equipment to optimize image quality.
Recognize and document normal and abnormal sonographic findings within the scope of practice.
Provide preliminary technical information to interpreting physicians.
Maintain accurate patient records, examinations documentation, and imaging records.
Follow infection-control procedures and radiation safety principles.
Monitor patients during procedures and respond appropriately to signs of distress or medical complications,
Clean and disinfect equipment and examination rooms between patients.
Participate in continuing education, staff meetings and performance improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more specialty areas, such as:
Abdominal ultrasound
Obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound
Vascular ultrasound
Breast ultrasound
Echocardiography
Pediatric ultrasound
Musculoskeletal ultrasound

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers.
Ability to push and pull and maneuver imaging equipment.

Work Environment
Clinical, hospital, outpatient, or diagnostic imaging setting.
May include weekends, evenings, holidays, on-call shifts, or emergency coverage.
Regular interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, technologist, and other healthcare professionals.
